The earlier invariant list correctly preserved truth, dignity, conscience, family, constitutional law, scientific correction, human command, builder culture, repairability and responsible strength.

But it placed too much conceptual weight on liberal democracy as though that phrase described the complete future operating system. It does not.

At its best, liberal democracy protects indispensable functions:

Those functions must be preserved. But a thinned version of liberal democracy can become:

Democracy is not the highest invariant. Legitimate, truthful, corrigible, dignified and high-performance civilization is the invariant. Democracy is one of the essential mechanisms used to achieve it.

PART II — ⚙ FIRST-PRINCIPLES SELECTION METHOD

SGT-TNG does not import entire civilizations, empires, religions or political ideologies wholesale. It performs feature-level civilizational engineering.

1. Extract the Function, Not the Label

Do not ask only whether Rome, liberalism, Christianity, democracy, Islam, monarchy, capitalism, socialism or Starfleet is simply good or bad. Ask what each feature did, what conditions made it work, who benefited, what it cost and whether the useful function can be separated from the harm.

2. Score Performance and Dignity Separately

A system may perform strongly while degrading human dignity. Another may protect dignity rhetorically while becoming incapable of defending, building or maintaining itself.

Performance × dignity × truth × continuity.

If one factor approaches zero, the complete system fails. High output cannot compensate for slavery, coercion or permanent human inferiority. Moral language cannot compensate for institutional incompetence, strategic collapse or inability to protect life.

3. Use Both Mirrors

• ⬛ The dark mirror asks what the same system became when its strengths escaped moral, constitutional or truth constraints.

4. Reject Inseparable Harms

A feature cannot be retained when its performance depends directly upon:
