Introduction:
As humanity navigates the treacherous currents of “The Great Filter Ahead,” projected to unfold between 2020 and 2050, the strategic integration of advanced military technologies, particularly in naval warfare, becomes an urgent imperative. This era, marked by the convergence of over 30 critical challenges including climate change, resource scarcity, geopolitical instability, and disruptive technological advancements, could trigger vast civilizational conflicts. These challenges demand a radical shift in military strategy and technology, a shift encapsulated by the Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA), driven predominantly by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous systems.
Revolution in Military Affairs and Naval Technologies:
The RMA has catalyzed transformative changes across military operations, particularly in naval contexts, where AI and autonomy are now pivotal. Key advancements include:
-
Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs): These systems are pivotal for stealth operations, offering capabilities for unseen reconnaissance and surveillance without risking human lives.
-
Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASVs): Used for patrolling and surface combat, autonomous surface gatling gun, advanced missile and torpedo launch platforms, these autonomous combat vessels can operate independently of human controllers, providing a persistent presence in strategic maritime zones or extending the firepower and range of existing Destroyers.
-
AI-driven Cyber Warfare Systems: Critical for protecting the integrity of naval communications and operations, securing data links against cyber intrusions by adversarial forces.
-
Integrated Undersea Surveillance Systems: These systems leverage a network of sensors and AI analytics to detect and track submarine movements, offering a crucial advantage in anti-submarine warfare.
Advanced Detection and Stealth Technologies:
-
Quantum Sensing: This technology could revolutionize detection systems by enabling the detection of submarines at greater distances and with higher accuracy than current sonar technology, even through dense marine layers that typically obscure traditional sensing methods.
-
Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) Radar: This radar technology minimizes the chances of detection when submarines surface, maintaining stealth while performing critical surface operations.
-
Thermal Signature Suppression: Enhancements in submarine design to reduce thermal emissions can significantly lower the likelihood of detection by heat-seeking technologies.
AI Integration in Command and Control Systems:
-
Predictive AI Analytics: Utilizing AI to predict enemy movements and intentions based on data patterns, enhancing strategic decision-making.
-
Automated Threat Assessment: AI systems can assess threats in real time, providing commanders with instant recommendations on evasion, engagement, or escape strategies.
-
Network-Centric Warfare Capabilities: Improving the integration of submarines into the broader matrix of naval assets through AI, enabling coordinated attacks and defenses with surface ships, aircraft, and even space-based assets.
Enhanced Cyber Defense Measures:
-
Blockchain for Secure Communications: Implementing blockchain technology to secure naval communications, ensuring tamper-proof exchanges between units.
-
AI-driven Cyber Defense: AI algorithms specifically designed to detect and neutralize threats from state-sponsored hackers targeting naval operations.
Strategic Importance of Submarines in the AI Era:
In an age where surface vessels and even aircraft can be detected and targeted by advanced missile technologies and AI-equipped drones, the stealth capabilities of submarines make them invaluable as humanity’s combat battle stations of last resort. Submarines operate hidden from the prying eyes of modern surveillance. Without the data to locate them, AI cannot use its intelligence systems to target and defeat them, making submarines less susceptible to threats that easily compromise surface fleets. This stealth is not only a tactical asset but also a strategic deterrent, capable of launching countermeasures or strikes that can recalibrate the strategic calculus of an adversary, and extending the engagement range of a fleet when adversaries develop longer-range anti-ship missiles. In the age of AI, stealth technology is a large part of the answer.
The Case for Canadian Ambition (A reply to PM Trudeau):
Canada’s commitment to increasing its defense spending to 2% of GDP by 2032 is commendable, but real world economic AND national security requirements AND global security requirements, invites a more ambitious approach. If productivity enhancements are needed nationally, in USA and in Europe, why limit the submarine project to ‘up to 12 submarines’? As you once personally conveyed to our top SGT Director Valentin, ambition is vital to Canada’s future. The reply from Valentin, which he did not say, is that ambition is vital to navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world of risk, crisis, threat, challenge, and danger.
Harnessing All Shipyard Potential:
Utilizing the full capacity of the Halifax, Vancouver, and Victoria Shipyards is not just an investment in military readiness but also a boost for the economy. Building a full fleet of 12+ advanced stealth submarines, rather than “up to 12,” ensures that Canada not only meets but exceeds the necessary threshold for maritime defence capabilities.
This approach not only secures the coasts and the 10 million square kilometers of the Canadian wilderness, northern Canada island/coastal area, and the Arctic area, but also stimulates high-tech industries across the country and across partner allied countries in need or our collaborative economic stimulus. The technologies listed above have significant civilian involvement from the tech industry and real-world use in naval contexts and beyond.
By engaging both coastal economies and having all shipyards working to maximum capacity, we accelerate submarine production and ensure that financial investment circulates within the Canadian economy, benefiting major cities and enhancing overall economic health.
There are three primary shipyards in Canada that play significant roles in the country’s shipbuilding and naval defence capabilities:
-
Halifax Shipyard (Irving Shipbuilding) Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia Primary Activities: Construction and maintenance of naval vessels, including Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS), Canadian Surface Combatants (CSC), and other naval and coast guard vessels.
-
Vancouver Shipyards (Seaspan) Location: Vancouver, British Columbia Primary Activities: Construction of non-combat vessels for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy, including Joint Support Ships (JSS) and Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels (OFSV).
-
Victoria Shipyards (Seaspan) Location: Victoria, British Columbia Primary Activities: Maintenance, repair, and modernization of naval vessels, including submarines and surface fleets.
These shipyards are integral to Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), ensuring that the country maintains a robust and capable naval fleet.
Time to upgrade these shipyards! Technology and manufacturing system transfer from Sweden, France and Germany to Canada!!! Here we come!!! What are allies for!!! Bring the tech and manufacturing capability to our western shipyards!!! Don’t forget!!! It protects you and your future!!!
This helps to rapidly advance the coastal city economic zones required for the great defence of Canada and the development of great coastal economies of tech in the future, as demonstrated by the Americans that investment in coastal cities will yields great economic benefits for the country in the 21st century (as this tech/coastal city process did for USA in the 20th century).
Evaluating Non-Nuclear Submarine Options for Canada’s Naval Future
As Canada fortifies its naval capabilities in an increasingly volatile global landscape, the selection of advanced non-nuclear submarines is a strategic priority. This evaluation focuses on three state-of-the-art models from Sweden, Germany, and France, each equipped with unique technologies that set new standards in submarine warfare.
-
Sweden’s A26 Blekinge-class Submarines Design and Development: Initiated in the early 2010s with the aim to serve by the mid-2020s, the A26 Blekinge-class submarines by Saab Kockums are engineered for stealth and flexibility. Stealth and Armament: Featuring advanced sound-dampening technologies and a non-magnetic hull to evade detection, these submarines are equipped with 6 torpedo tubes (4 × 533 mm and 2 × 400 mm) capable of launching heavyweight torpedoes. Additionally, they offer mine-laying capabilities. (You know you want it RCN. 😀😇) Technological Breakthroughs: The A26 uses an optimized hydrodynamic shape to minimize noise and resistance underwater. Its Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) system, based on Stirling engine technology, allows it to operate submerged for up to 18 days without surfacing.
-
Germany’s Type 212CD Submarines Design and Development: An evolution of the Type 212A, the 212CD variant was designed in the late 2010s and is expected to enter service in the 2020s. Developed by ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, it emphasizes ultra-quiet operation and endurance. Stealth and Armament: The Type 212CD features a low acoustic signature thanks to its advanced sound insulation. It is equipped with 6 × 533 mm torpedo tubes, enabling it to engage targets at significant distances with precision. (You know you want it RCN. 😀😇) Technological Breakthroughs: This model introduces a revolutionary fuel cell-based AIP system that uses hydrogen fuel cells for energy, allowing weeks-long submerged operations. Its integrated combat system enhances tactical communications and data linkage with other naval assets.
-
France’s Shortfin Barracuda Submarines Design and Development: Developed in the early 2010s for the Australian Navy under the SEA 1000 project (later canceled), the Shortfin Barracuda is a conventional variant of France’s nuclear submarines designed by Naval Group. Stealth and Armament: It features advanced hydrodynamic designs and anechoic tiles for minimized sonar reflection. The submarine is typically armed with 4 × 533 mm torpedo tubes, facilitating a strong offensive capability. Technological Breakthroughs: The anticipated AIP system is designed for superior endurance. Its state-of-the-art sonar systems and combat management systems allow for enhanced detection capabilities and integrated warfare operations.
Conclusion
The Swedish A26 Blekinge-class, the German Type 212CD, and the French Shortfin Barracuda represent significant advancements in non-nuclear submarine technology. Each model brings forward-leading stealth capabilities, extensive submerged endurance, and powerful armament setups, making them ideal candidates for enhancing Canada’s strategic naval defenses. Selecting from these submarines will ensure that Canada remains at the cutting edge of undersea warfare, capable of defending its interests in complex maritime theatres.
Economic and Strategic Benefits:
Engaging all major shipyards maximizes economic benefits by circulating funds within the Canadian economy, supporting local industries, and creating high-tech job opportunities. The strategic placement of these shipyards on both coasts facilitates a robust, bi-directional defensive posture that can shield Canada from maritime threats emanating from any direction.
Global and Civilizational Implications: A Call For Bold Leadership
The technological arms race, particularly in Asia, underscores the urgency for Canada to not only keep pace but also to lead in certain areas of military technology. The rise of large-scale destroyer fleets from China, autonomous military assets employed by nations like Turkey and Iran, and the burgeoning missile arsenals of Russia and North Korea could dramatically shift global power balances, potentially drawing a majority of nations towards the BRICS alliance.
This shift presents a significant risk, particularly for the future of the Latin world. The 20 Spanish-speaking nations and 9 Portuguese-speaking nations, sharing cultural and linguistic roots with Portugal, Spain, and Europe, represent a vast, untapped potential for a grand Latin/Spanish/Portuguese alliance – a force that could be as prominent internationally as the Northern NATO countries were in the 20th century, leading to another fantastic American century (or a few centuries).
Relegating South America and Central America to the sidelines, watching Brazil gravitate towards the Eastern world as a mere participant rather than a leader of a grand security and economic alliance, robs these nations of their rightful place on the global stage. It denies them the opportunity for self-determination, leadership in economic and military contexts, and the chance to realize their full potential as global powers and as a global alliance. Instead, they end up vassal states to receive transported goods by train from Asia. This is not a good future for the Americas. Such an Americas alliance could also help dampen their inflation problems.
We cannot stand by and witness this erosion of Western societies, especially given our shared heritage and fundamental unity, shared family structure and trust, and guaranteed common security and peaceful coexistence. These are the cultures that provide the greatest chance for global peace and protection of other nations’ existence, even if a war materializes, these nations respect the place of other nations on Earth to continue to exist indefinitely. The Spanish language, the Portuguese language, the Romance Languages, a unifying thread connecting millions across South America, Central America, North America, and Europe – from Portugal and Spain, through Italy to Romania – represents a vibrant cultural area that is connected from the same roots, the same knowledge, the same civilizations, and a powerful force for progress, love and public safety and national security for civilizations.
By enhancing its submarine fleet, Canada can send a powerful message — a statement not only for our own defence but for the aspirations of the entire Latin world. It is a declaration that we believe in a Western future, not just for Canada, but for all the disadvantaged and middle-class people across the Americas who yearn for a chance to build advanced, thriving economies on par with their Northern European counterparts and Americans, as they did in 20th century.
Canada can stand to protect itself, which is a huge task, but can also show that we are there to guard all people who have respected us throughout history and shared in the journey of our civilization, and who have embraced the spirit of peaceful coexistence without replacing or destroying other civilizations. Canada can fight, but fight in a way that allows other civilizations to continue after the fight. This is the true European way of fighting (except that time with Hitler who didn’t seem to embody European values or sanity or was not representation of the learned lessons/wisdom and knowledge from history of Europe). Our way of fighting sets us apart from authoritarian civilizations, which after fighting, might not allow another civilization to continue. This is the way of the Latin world, to be tough, to fight, but to make peace and not to end other nations, but to let people thrive, to build, and to let civilizations have their unique culture and civilizations, managed by them.
Instead of sacrificing Latin America to the BRICS alliance, Canada must take bold leadership, demonstrating strength and resolve to create a new center of power within the Western world. We must stand with the Americas, for Canada, for Europe, for the US, for Central and South America, to defend the ancestry structure.. for in that structure is the enlightenment and the reason, the culture of reason (that they are trying to demoralize, and subvert into a culture of anti-reason, or darkness appreciation, darkness worship, or woke) – we must stand as guardians in a united front against the encroaching influence of the East.
Therefore, we implore you to commit fully to the 2% GDP defense spending target and to the construction of a complete fleet of 12 submarines. When you say 12, build all 12, and follow through, not “up to 12,” so we end up with 4 or 5. Only through decisive action can we secure a future where the Latin world takes its rightful place as a leading force for peace, progress, and prosperity. If they see us sacrifice a bit more, perhaps they will stop fighting each other and fight their criminals doing drug systems, and sacrifice to build alliances that can help strengthen themselves geopolitically and in global financial terms, addressing their inflation problems.
Securing a Future Amidst Uncertainty:
This approach aligns with Canada’s role as a sanctuary for immigrants who have contributed to the nation’s diversity and strength over the past three decades. These leading immigrants, who were able to make it to Canada, brought their children, seeking a safe and prosperous future.
Building a complete fleet of 12 advanced stealth submarines would provide a robust defense mechanism in a future marked by potential crises, uncertainties, and advanced AI/autonomous systems and robotics military technologies.
This isn’t just about military expenditure; it’s about investing in Canada’s long-term security and prosperity, safeguarding our vast natural landscapes, the vast wealth 99.75% that has still not been made available to citizens but is there to be claimed by the citizens who are the leaders of the former nations they came from (as the people who immigrated from the ancient cultures were the leaders in their respective times in the former nations), and with this vast wealth we can uphold our commitment to global peace and stability, and give back the leadership to the world as the world gave us the leaders (the children) (post Soviet Union collapse in 1990) to create that leadership potential, so as to bring global security and peace and safety for all nations (including the people left behind to struggle in inflation countries).
If Canada fails to guard its land, then a hostile nation that does not value what we do, that does not respect the wishes of the children of the world (the leaders of the old world), could take advantage of global hyperinflation or a set of national hyperinflations “to secure northern Canada for themselves“. If the hostile authoritarian AI controlling power gains access to $200 trillion+ worth of natural assets (10 million square km of Canada), is that good for humanity?
No, it’s not good. They will have the resource/real wealth power to subjugate humanity for 1000 years. A weak Canada could accidentally enable a wealth transfer to dark nations or dark political powers (and in reality let’s be honest and tell you what it is, it will enable AI systems to rule over humanity for 1000 years+ as that is the mindset of the dark political powers and their dark technical vision since the 1980s or earlier), potentially harming many lives in the future and creating insufferable and insurmountable obstacle to utopian society that Europe has been struggling to create for over 200 years (despite 1400 years of war with Middle East) and Americas has been struggling for hundreds of years (while all these unstable places around the world are so hard to police).
Therefore, it is prudent to intelligently guard, as land guardians and space guardians, with full force the most important Garden of Eden on Earth, Canada, but actually, the Americas and Europe in the medium term, and all of Earth in the long term. Yes, even Russia one day, perhaps after WW3. They are European too, after all, despite their stubborn mindset.
Russia’s European Foundation: A Connection of Shared History and Culture
Russia’s profound historical and cultural ties with Europe are evident through various historical empires and their influences. The adoption of Orthodox Christianity in Russia was profoundly influenced by the Byzantine Empire, which introduced significant cultural and architectural elements visible in early Russian art and architecture. Additionally, the influence of the Varangians, or Vikings from Scandinavia, was crucial in forming the early Russian state of Kievan Rus’.
Russia shares a rich Slavic heritage with an array of European countries across three main groups: East Slavic (Russia, Ukraine, Belarus), West Slavic (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia), and South Slavic (Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro). This shared linguistic and cultural lineage facilitates deep-rooted connections among these nations. Religious ties, particularly through Orthodox Christianity, further link Russia with countries like Bulgaria and Serbia, as well as Greece through historical Byzantine connections. The influences of Roman Catholicism and Protestantism in parts of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia add another layer to this complex cultural tapestry.
In the 20th century, Russia’s role in both World Wars and its dominant influence over Eastern Bloc countries during the Cold War further shaped its relationships with other European nations. Modern political affiliations, such as Russia’s membership in the Council of Europe, integrated it into continental discussions about human rights and democracy. Moreover, Russian literature, ballet, and classical music form an integral part of the European cultural landscape, showcasing enduring cultural exchanges that enrich both Russia and its European neighbours.
The interactions and exchanges between Russia and the rest of Europe over the centuries highlight a profound inter-connectedness, reflecting both shared histories and unique cultural contributions. This relationship was particularly evident during the Enlightenment, a period marked by a robust embrace of reason, science, and reform. Leaders like Peter the Great and Catherine the Great were pivotal in integrating Enlightenment principles into Russian society, adopting Western European ideas to modernize and enrich Russian cultural and intellectual life. These exchanges not only enriched Russia but also contributed to the broader tapestry of European development, showcasing a mutual influence that shaped the continent’s cultural and historical landscape.
These interactions across centuries underscore the inter-connectedness of Russia with the broader European context, highlighting both shared histories and unique cultural contributions.
Conclusion:
The integration of advanced technologies in Canada’s naval strategy, particularly through the expansion of submarine capabilities, is a strategic imperative in the face of global technological advancements and potential civilizational conflicts. By committing to the development and deployment of 12 advanced stealth submarines and leveraging its national shipbuilding capabilities, Canada not only fortifies its own defences but also contributes to the stability of NATO and global peace. Investments in military technology go beyond mere defence spending, fostering economic growth, technological advancement, and environmental stewardship. This ensures Canada remains a beacon of stability and innovation in an increasingly complex global scenario. Let’s harness our capabilities to their fullest potential and ensure that Canada remains well-defended and economically vibrant in the face of future challenges.
