Canada’s Crossroads in 2024: Navigating Canada’s Future Under Near-Absolute Authority

Introduction

Canada is facing a critical juncture where national security, public health, and government policy intersect in ways that significantly impact citizens’ lives. Amid escalating global tensions, questions have arisen about Canada’s military preparedness, particularly given the limited number of effective infantry and gaps in national readiness. At the same time, infrastructure weaknesses and an alarming rise in disability rates highlight the urgency of addressing health, labour participate rate/productive output of workforce in real terms and resilience issues among Canadians.

From 2020 to 2024, the government’s legislative focus appears increasingly aimed at consolidating authority rather than fostering individual empowerment. Many bills passed during this period emphasize regulatory and administrative oversightespecially in urban areas and digital spacesrather than directly improving citizens’ health, productivity, or independence. This approach prioritizes centralized control in Canadians’ daily lives over initiatives that could boost productivity or personal agency. This analysis examines the implications of current policies on military readiness, public health, and governmental control, exploring what these decisions mean for the future stability and well-being of Canada.

Concerns Over Military Readiness and Governance

Approximately 7,000 effective infantry are prepared for deployment in Canada, highlighting limitations in military readiness should a major conflict arise. Given these numbers, concerns have been raised about whether Canada’s defense capabilities are adequately prioritized to address potential military engagements.

The concern arises as the Liberal Party under PM Trudeau seems determined to stay in power during a period of potential global conflicts, which could consolidate their position through wartime…

a scenario that wouldn’t best serve Canadians if the Liberal Party are the ones directing any national defense efforts.

Given current limitations in defense preparedness, inadequate infrastructure resilience, and low prioritization of STEM and military strategy by the Liberal Party, it is possible that, in an unmitigated conflict scenario against advanced adversaries like Russia, China, or North Korea, Canada could face severe national security risks.

In the absence of timely international intervention, these vulnerabilities could lead to catastrophic consequences, including the potential for extensive territorial occupation and mass casualties. In extreme cases, the lack of sufficient defense capabilities might result in the possibility of total territorial loss and large-scale threats to life.

Weak Infrastructure and Public Health Crisis

Canada’s infrastructure readiness reveals significant vulnerabilities: while some strategic reserves exist, there are inadequate preparations for electrical grid resilience, including a lack of backup transformers and fast surge protectors (EMP), with no comprehensive EMP protection across the civilian or military grid. This gap extends to the lack of EMP-protected vehicles, including essential transport trucks.

Additionally, limited stockpiles of essential commoditiesoil, food, medicine, water, ammunition, shells, rockets, and missiles alongside a weakened and under-modernized military, raise concerns about Canada’s ability to respond to major crises.

Compounding this is a public health crisis affecting nearly 8 million Canadians with disabilities, which could impact workforce resilience and emergency responsiveness.

These factors suggest that, in the event of major threats, such as climate change, demographic shifts, automation challenges, global conflicts, or even pressures from aligned global corporations (WEF & WHO), Canada may struggle to protect its national interests and maintain sovereignty.

The Role of Ultra-Processed Foods in Health Decline

According to the 2022 Canadian Survey on Disability, 27% of Canadians over age 15up from 22% in 2017reported disabilities limiting daily activities. This increase from 6.2 million to 8 million is troubling, as the policies in place seem to exacerbate rather than alleviate the factors contributing to public health issues. The Canadian ecosystem seems to create disability in it’s population, and no policies are designed to reverse this trend.

Ultra-processed foods, for instance, play a known role in the rise of metabolic diseases, obesity, creating widespread array of illnesses that are chronic and severely painful, and so forth, causing a big variety of health crises, and a big drain financially on Canada’s healthcare system and it’s doctor and specialist availability, yet there’s been little action on food regulation to reduce percentage of ultra processed food from say 60% or so to 5% to 15% Italian levels, to curb their impacts of needing hospital services as a result.

Legislation Focused on Control, Not Public Empowerment

Instead, legislation has focused heavily on controlling speech, firearms, and other forms of rights and expression, which appear more aligned with centralizing authority, placing the levers of global corporate stakeholder driven policy design power at the supranational level with WHO, WEF & UN, and providing power to Prime Minister, rather than with empowering citizens, rather than increasing citizen authority an governance power of the professionals in Canadian society (except Danielle Smith/Alberta), rather than giving authority to citizens via online free speech on X, rather than making people healthy instead of disabled, by improving their health and resilience, they choose dozens of legislative pieces that are all about control of all citizens into population compression zones in the cities via legislation and digital technologies.

Concentration of Power at the Prime Ministerial Level

Recent bills in the House of Commons focus more on tightening control over people than reducing disability rates to make people have more control in their lives, and to contribute more to society.

Prime Minister Trudeau has demonstrated substantial power within Canada’s parliamentary system, holding a level of influence over national policy and appointments that exceeds that of many leaders in democratic systems. His ability to control the legislative agenda, appoint key officials across government branches, and shape policies through executive authority grants him significant administrative reach, which is unusually centralized for a parliamentary democracy.

Given this, wouldn’t it be more logical to shift efforts towards public health improvements, which empower citizens, rather than continually expanding legislation that concentrates power at the top?

Canadian Prime Minister Holds the Power to Appoint Numerous Positions Across Government Branches, Directly Influencing the Judiciary, Executive agencies, and Diplomatic roles

The Canadian Prime Minister holds the power to appoint numerous positions across government branches, directly influencing the judiciary, executive agencies, and diplomatic roles. Here is a comprehensive list of the positions typically appointed by the Prime Minister, along with the powers these appointments carry:
  1. Cabinet Ministers: The Prime Minister appoints Cabinet members, determines their portfolios, and can dismiss or reassign them, ensuring loyalty to the government’s agenda. Cabinet members lead major departments like Health, Defense, and Finance.
  2. Senators: The Prime Minister recommends appointments to the Senate, a key legislative body that reviews and approves laws. Senators serve until age 75, providing long-term influence on legislative decisions.
  3. Judiciary: The Prime Minister recommends appointments for Supreme Court justices, Chief Justices, and Associate Chief Justices, impacting decisions on critical legal issues. Lower federal court judges are appointed on the advice of the Minister of Justice, though still influenced by the Prime Minister’s guidance.
  4. Deputy Ministers and Senior Public Service Officials: These include deputy ministers, who are senior civil servants in various government departments. Their non-partisan roles influence policy implementation and are appointed based on the Prime Minister’s directives, often through the Privy Council Office (PCO).
  5. Diplomatic Roles:Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and other senior diplomatic roles are appointed by the Prime Minister. These individuals represent Canada’s interests abroad and participate in international negotiations and treaties.
  6. Governor General and Lieutenant Governors: Though technically appointed by the Crown, these roles are filled based on the Prime Minister’s recommendation. The Governor General performs ceremonial duties and represents the monarchy in Canada, while Lieutenant Governorsperform similar roles within provinces.
  7. Heads of Crown Corporations and Government Agencies: The Prime Minister appoints leaders for entities like the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and other agencies. These appointees oversee operations that impact national policies on everything from taxation to public broadcasting.
  8. Agents and Officers of Parliament: The Prime Minister also appoints officials who provide oversight, such as the Auditor General, Privacy Commissioner, and Chief Electoral Officer. Some of these positions may require parliamentary consultation, but the Prime Minister holds considerable influence in their selection.
  9. Advisory Boards and Committees: Specific advisory boards, like the one for Supreme Courtappointments, are structured under the Prime Minister’s direction, often filled with members who advise on key appointments and policies.
These powers give the Prime Minister substantial control over Canada’s governance and policy direction, with appointments influencing lawmaking, government oversight, and public administration across Canada. Centre for Constitutional Studies The Canadian Encyclopedia repolitics Canada Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Holds Significant Legislative Powers

The Canadian Prime Minister holds significant legislative powers beyond appointment authority, allowing substantial control over the legislative process:
  1. Control Over Parliamentary Agenda: The Prime Minister sets the legislative agenda and can prioritize or delay bills in the House of Commons. This includes decisions on which bills to advance or amend, particularly those aligned with the government’s policy goals. Party discipline ensures that members generally support the Prime Minister’s agenda, which strengthens this control.
  2. Proroguing and Dissolving Parliament: The Prime Minister can advise the Governor Generalto prorogue (suspend) or dissolve Parliament, which can effectively halt any ongoing legislative processes, causing any bills still under review to “die.” This can be a strategic tool to either pause legislative activities or reset the legislative agenda, especially if it aligns with political timing, such as leading to an election.
  3. Influence Over the Budget: The Prime Minister and Cabinet have significant sway over the national budget process. As budget proposals originate in the House of Commons, the government can introduce financial policies, taxes, and spending allocations that reflect their legislative priorities. The budget process is central to government functioning, so the Prime Minister’s role here ensures alignment with the government’s broader fiscal and policy strategies.
  4. Legislation on National Issues: Through the Cabinet and ministers, the Prime Minister can introduce key legislation on defense, trade, foreign relations, and other areas critical to national interest, shaping the direction of federal policy in a coordinated manner.
  5. Role in Committee Oversight: The Prime Minister has influence over the committee system, which reviews and makes recommendations on bills. Committees often reflect the government’s majority, allowing for further control over bill amendments and review processes.
These combined legislative powers enable the Prime Minister to significantly shape Canadian lawmaking and national policy direction, demonstrating the office’s substantial influence over government actions and legislative outcomes in Canada. These powers work within constitutional conventions and parliamentary norms, often leading to robust debates on the extent of prime ministerial control in a parliamentary democracy.

Conclusion

In light of Canada’s mounting challenges low productivity labour market participation limits due to high disability rates, military limitations, a public health crisis, and legislative priorities focused on control there is a clear need for a strategic shift in policy.

Strengthening public health by banning ultra processed foods, addressing food quality in meats to ensure high quality nutrients in animal consumption such as grass and plants, and enhancing the resilience of infrastructure would not only empower citizens but also reinforce industrial productivity, technology productivity, public safety, border security and national security.

Moreover, shifting the legislative focus from centralizing power toward uplifting public welfare could foster a healthier, more self-sufficient society better equipped for modern challenges.

For example, instead of firearms bans, use the capital offer work planting trees to rebuild forests (solving health and climate change mitigation at the same time), or to clear areas for land near the cities, for housing deployment from Amazon or Home Depot using next generation pod houses Trek style, dropped by truck on location.

With thoughtful, citizen-centered policies, ones that provide citizens more productivity and authority, Canada can bolster its industrial force, it’s defense and improve public well-being, ensuring a stronger, more resilient nation.
