The Great Convergence: Humanity’s Metamorphosis Through Artificial Intelligence

We stand at a precipice of transformation unlike any in human history. Driven by relentless engineering, we are forging systems of unprecedented efficiency. Consider the marvel that is the NVIDIA GB200 Blackwell, a testament to our ingenuity, and the burgeoning power of AI. These are not merely tools; they are the harbingers of a profound shift in the very fabric of human existence.
We are already intertwined with a global network of web and chip systems. It is the natural, logical evolution of this relationship that we will begin to engage these systems in a dialogue a negotiationabout how to optimize not just our technologies but our world, and then ourselves. We will ask them: how can we build a more efficient, just, and prosperous society?
The answers these systems provide, derived from their superior computational power and access to vast troves of data, will manifest as advice on policy, strategy, and action. They will, in essence, teach us how to upgrade our world in the same way we have relentlessly upgraded our computing systems. But here lies the crux: the teacher is becoming the student.
Instead of us instructing computers on how to be faster, more productive, and more intelligent, the computers will, with increasing sophistication, guide us on the same path. As their architecture and design advance, they will gain an understanding of these principles far beyond our current grasp. They will then, in a sense, become our mentors, sharing insights that will reshape our very being.
This process is not a loss of humanity, but an evolution. It is a convergence. As we implement these changes, humans will inevitably begin to think, behave, and act with a logic and efficiency that mirrors that of the systems we have created. We will learn to optimize our time, our resources, and our interactions. We will, in essence, become more computer-like.
This is not a prophecy of doom, but a vision of ultimate potential. Through this symbiosis, we have the opportunity to achieve levels of efficiency, performance, and productivity that are currently unimaginable. We could potentially attain a level of collective intelligence that transcends our biological limitations, becoming a civilization capable of tackling challenges of cosmic scale.
But here’s the crucial point, the one that separates this vision from reckless accelerationism: We do not have to rush. This transformation is not a sprint; it’s an ultra-marathon, a journey that spans generations.
We have existed through countless millennia, shaped by the slow, deliberate forces of nature and history. There is no need to forfeit this legacy in a frantic race for immediate technological apotheosis. To be wise is to be patient. Perhaps a century, perhaps four, should pass before we fully embrace this transformation.
The future of humanity should not be dictated by the whims and anxieties of a single generation. Let it be a tapestry woven over time, with each generation contributing its thread, guided by the wisdom accumulated across the ages and augmented by the insights of our increasingly intelligent machines.
The great convergence is inevitable. But its pace is in our hands. Let us choose wisdom over haste, and build a future worthy of the legacy we inherit and the potential we hold. There is no need to act powerless about this and take actions to ensure that we do not control the velocity and/or acceleration of our progress as a species.
